Week 22 Contact

This week I am still learning about being a detective in Science.  I learned how you can tell which pen was used to write a note.  I took 3 different markers and wrote on 3 different pieces of paper.
Then I dipped the paper into the water just a little bit so the water could soak up the paper.
This is what the different pens looked like when I was done.  My sister and brother tried to be tricky and  went into the other room to write on a piece of paper and see if I could figure out which pen they used.  I  figured it out every time.  Look at all the different colors that are in each black pen.

Good Sailors

Have you ever heard of the Vikings? They were good sailors like the Phoenicians. I wonder if those two groups ever crossed paths? Maybe they lived at different times in history.

I've found that adding to the money I have is a lot more fun than subtracting from it!

Have you ever noticed that when you put your fingers on the sticky side of Scotch or packing tape it really shows your fingerprints well?

Week 21 Contact

This week in science I learned how to look at different fingerprints and label them.  Then I got to dust and lift for fingerprints.  It didn't work very well but it was still fun.  In history we learned about the phoenicians and that they were very good sailors.  In writing I wrote about the Grimm brothers.  I also started reading Kit Kitridge.  She was a detective too!  In math I have been getting really good at adding money and have also been learning about fractions.

Detective work

Being a detective would require a lot of investigation, gathering of evidence, and thinking. It would be kind of like putting a giant puzzle together. As hard as investigating current crimes is, it must be much more challenging to try to figure out a mystery from over a thousand years ago! Obviously, there are no witnesses after that many years.

Week 20 Contact

This week my favorite thing we did in school was learn about King Tut in history.  We watched a movie and I really liked it!  In science we learned about detectives and how the police find the bad guys
First I had to write down measurements and what I look like.
Then I got to make fingerprints.  I took a pencil and scribbled on a piece of paper and then rubbed my fingers over it.
 It was fun but messy!
Then my mom took a piece of tape and put it on my fingers to get the fingerprint off.  This is me looking at how different my fingerprints are with a magnifying glass.
Here are my fingerprints.  It was fun learning about detectives, just like the detectives that tried to figure out what happened to King Tut!

Spelling Whiz

Great job on the spelling from last week! It is hard to know very much about ancient civilizations. What do you think they might be able to figure out about us a couple thousand years from now. Paper doesn't last very long, and what if the computers are all gone? Maybe we should be writing down some of our most important information in stone! Some of our buildings might last that long.

Week 19 Contact

This week I finished my math book, but I had to start another one!  I also got a perfect score on my spelling test.  My writing is getting really good and I really like doing it!  In history we have been learning more about ancient civilizations.  Today we talked about ancient Africa.  I learned that we don't know a whole lot about them because they didn't write a lot down.
