Spelling Whiz
Great job on the spelling from last week! It is hard to know very much about ancient civilizations. What do you think they might be able to figure out about us a couple thousand years from now. Paper doesn't last very long, and what if the computers are all gone? Maybe we should be writing down some of our most important information in stone! Some of our buildings might last that long.

Week 19 Contact
This week I finished my math book, but I had to start another one! I also got a perfect score on my spelling test. My writing is getting really good and I really like doing it! In history we have been learning more about ancient civilizations. Today we talked about ancient Africa. I learned that we don't know a whole lot about them because they didn't write a lot down.
Giggly
Getting traced would kind of tickle! I think your sister had a harder job because you're taller.
Have you ever done any tie dye? You could actually dye some clothes to make them that colorful.

Week 18 Contact
This week for my art project I traced my sister to make a life size picture of her. She was super giggly and wouldn't hold still!
Then we decorated our pictures with lots of different colors. I wish I had a coat with that many colors!

Learning fun!
You sure have a lot of fun learning! Hands-on activities make things more interesting. You are probably glad to do your painting inside the house, instead of inside a cave!
After using clay to do writing, you probably can see why many people could not read way back then. It would be awfully hard to reproduce or transport reading materials. A clay tablet probably wouldn't survive being put in the library drop box!

Week 17 Contact
My mom got me a new history book to study. It's called The Story of the World. I started learning about ancient civilizations again. We talked about the nomads and the ancient egyptians.
I made a painting like they did a long time ago on cave walls. I took a piece of brown paper and crumpled it up a lot to make it rough. Then I painted a picture of a horse. I painted the outside of the horse black and colored the inside brown.
My mom also got me a new writing book called Writing with Ease. My sister does the top sentence and I work on the bottom. I think my writing is getting a lot better.
For history we also made clay tablets. The clay was really hard. My mom had to help me to roll it out a little bit. I wrote my name the way the Sumerians would write. It was hard and I am glad we can write on paper even if it doesn't last as long!

Conserve that candle
Does your dad ever tell you to turn the lights off when you're not in a room? I bet back in the old days parents would tell kids to blow their candles out when they weren't needed! If the candles take a long time to make, people wouldn't want to waste all that work unless they really needed a little bit of light.
I think dividing a square pan of brownies into eighths would really help you remember your math lesson!
